Liam Shanahan’s leadership will allow Shanahan Engineering to continue to deliver on a global basis.”
Selected from 24 shortlisted finalists by an independent judging panel chaired by previous winner, Denis O’Brien, Shanahan was presented with his Award by the Minister for Finance, Charlie McCreevy, T.D.

Shanahan Engineering is a world-class engineering company providing Project & Construction Management, Operation & Maintenance and Technical Field Services to the Power Generation, Oil & Gas and Industrial Process sectors, world-wide.

In total, 24 Irish Entrepreneurs were selected from sectors as diverse as Food Processing, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Software and Digital Media, to compete for this year's title. This year's nominees represented a broad nationwide spread, split 50:50 between those in Dublin and those based outside of the capital and confirm the pattern of previous years of vibrant entrepreneurship right across the country. As a group, the 24 nominees employ over 4,000 people and their combined sales amount to in excess of €700 million.
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards is part of a global recognition programme, created to identify, support and reward entrepreneurs across all sectors. Now run in over 35 countries across six continents, this is the sixth year that Awards have been held in Ireland. Previous winners include Padraig O’Ceidigh – Aer Arann, Denis O'Brien - Esat Telecom, Martin McVicar - CombiLift, Moya Doherty - Abhann Productions/Riverdance and Eddie Jordan - Jordan Grand Prix.
Liam Shanahan will now go forward to represent Ireland in Monte Carlo at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of The Year Awards in 2004. Fifty three of the NASDAQ top 100 companies are former winners and many of the world’s leading companies, including Dell, Sun Microsystems and Starbucks Coffee have won the world Award.
