Blogging is now a mainstream activity. It’s everywhere. No matter where you turn there’s a blog staring at you.
According to a 2011 survey by HubSpot.com, businesses are in the minority if they do not have a blog on their website. From 2009 to 2011 the percentage of businesses with a blog grew from 48% to 65%.
And for a good reason too.
Blogs are a great way to share information and they can go a long way to humanise your company by offering non-formal views and opinions. Businesses use blogs as a way to generate a sense of community and action in regards to their products and services. Individuals on the other hand, will blog out of pure hobby or interest. They'll share the happenings of the day or the latest activities involving the dog.
Let’s assume you have a website promoting your services. Blogging should be fairly simple for you if this is the case. You just need to write about developments in the profession and how they will impact on your clients. You can also talk about the various sides in a situation and potential future action such as research or government legislation that might impact on that field.
Have you a website selling products? Most online shopping sites think a blog is difficult to maintain. What would you write about? Simple! The products! You can discuss new products you have in, their advantages etc. You can also use the blog comments feature to answer questions you get from customers. If someone has a question, rest assured that others have probably thought the same thing.
From a search engine optimisation (SEO) point of view, blogging is fantastic when it comes to your website rankings. Back in the day the search engines just looked for relevant content. Now they are looking for relevant, exclusive and new content. Blogs offer all of this and Google recognises that by giving that content higher placement when users search for related topics.
Sitting down and writing a blog can take a bit of time and effort but once you get into the swing of it can become quite painless. If all else fails, you can assign it to someone else!
