You never have to take or deal with customer card details in person, everything is handled by the card processing company, e.g. Realex, PayPal or SagePay. The card processing & clearance is all processed seamlessly and behind the scenes as the customer inputs their own credit card details. For you that means more self service, less of a security headache and less unnecessary admin time taking personal card details.
Customer card details are fully encrypted over SSL encryption (you'll see https:// on your page URL's and the secure padlock on your web browser). Card details are never stored on your website and are only processed with by the card processing company. Card numbers and customer details are verified by the card processer, and customers may also be forced to enter their 3D Secure password to further authenticate themselves.
